Code.org December 9-15, 2013 Hour of Code!

Posted on 14:37 by Unknown

We have joined Code.org to support the Hour of Code during CS Edweek. Many of you already know about it, but just in case, here's some new information that was just released at their kick-off event yesterday. Please feel free to spread the word and share this email with your individual networks including teachers of all ages, students, administrators, and other informal educational program staff.

It’s the largest initiative of its kind: a campaign to recruit 10 million students to try computer science for one hour during Computer Science Education Week (Dec. 9-15).

We’re joining Microsoft, Google, Apple, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and over 100 others, to make history. We’re asking for your help, and there’s a reward for EVERY educator who participates.

Start planning the Hour of Code for your classroom at http://hourofcode.com/.

Calling all students -- regardless of age

Computer science is foundational for all students today, yet 90% of schools don’t teach it. This is a chance to make sure your students will be on the forefront of creating the technology of the future, not just using it, and to prepare them for the 21st Century.

What’s an Hour of Code?

It’s an hour-long introduction to computer science designed to demystify code and show students that everyone can learn the basics. Code.org will provide tutorials that require no prior experience -- on a browser, smartphone, or even “unplugged.”
Prizes for EVERY educator!

EVERY educator who registers to host an Hour of Code will receive 10GB of free DropBox storage as a thank you gift. Just register your school’s participation

Organize for your entire school and win a class-set of laptops

Code.org will gift 50 class-sets of laptops to 50 lucky schools, one in every state. Organize and register your entire school to participate in the Hour of Code by Nov. 15 to qualify.

Teachers of all disciplines: please set aside one hour to expose your students to these critical skills. Make a difference for your students at http://hourofcode.com.
