CareerCafe.com Announces Free Job Portal in Partnerships with EDD
California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office (CCCCO) and the California Employment Development Division (EDD) have partnered to bring CalJOBS to students looking for jobs and internships and to employers looking to fill open positions — free of charge. This job portal is being integrated into CACareerCafe.com, a project funded by the Chancellor's Office.
"With 82,000 jobs currently posted, we want to get Californians into open jobs as part of Doing What MATTERS for Jobs and the Economy,” states Van Ton-Quinlivan, Vice Chancellor for Workforce and Economic Development. “Why not leverage the investments already made by our sister agency for these online resources to better support our students, employers and colleges?"
The job portal provides a critical connection between students and EDD’s new CalJOBS. EDD recently launched a multi-million dollar upgrade of the technology behind CalJOBS across the California public workforce system. CACareerCafe.com leveraged this investment to develop a job portal that simplifies access and makes it user-friendly for students and employers. Employers can post jobs and internships, review resumes, and evaluate job applications. The entire CACareerCafe.com site is a free, 24/7 resource for community college students, aiming to provide end-to-end career advice, pathways, experience, and soft skills.
"I’m pleased to be partnering with the Chancellor’s Office on a collaborative effort to connect employers seeking students and students seeking jobs," said EDD's Director Pam Harris. "The EDD’s newly enhanced CalJOBS online labor exchange system is a great asset for the state and we're proud it can be leveraged for supporting the valuable work of the CACareer Café.com project." The EDD's Deputy Director of Workforce Services, Dennis Petrie, adds “This collaboration demonstrates a commitment among the public workforce system partners to more effectively serve our common customers and facilitate their employment success. Californians truly benefit when state government breaks through program and service silos with the goal of enhancing employer and job seeker connections."
In addition, campuses can gain insight into student job searches by tracking campus of origin, what jobs students are applying for, how they are using the system, and how employers are utilizing this new resource to connect with students. Faculty can also use the new site to research jobs as well.
Features and benefits include:
  • Free online access to employment services 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from any location with Internet access.
  • Career tools to effectively find jobs that match skills, values, and interests – including resume building/archiving wizard.
  • User-friendly options to assess regional labor market data including industry key word search capability.
  • The ability to track and manage all job search activities – customizable student dashboards.
  • Unduplicated job postings from across the Internet – over 82,000 jobs currently posted.
  • Equal access to for those who use Spanish language, as well as customers who are visually impaired.
