sfciti: Connecting Teachers and Tech

Posted on 10:36 by Unknown

LinkedIn's Emilio Arias and Jeff Larson, IT Pathway Coordinator (SFUSD)

logosThis month, sf.citi and San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) brought together teachers, administrators, technology and non-profit leaders to redesign and update curricula in the school district's three operating Information Technology academies. Located at Balboa, Galileo, and Lowell High Schools, the IT academies prepare hundreds of students for  future careers in the tech sector, which is why we sought industry input from the sf.citi community for the process.

At a workshop hosted by Tagged, company leadership from LinkedIn, Zynga, Tagged, blackgirlscode, SparkAmerica, and AT&T convened to provide an employer perspective for SFUSD and learn about the National Career Technical Standards of the district. Afterwards, member companies Exygy and KID Group opened their doors to the educators for a work-based learning job shadow and tech tour of their workspace.

The new tech curriculum will be implemented at all three academies in the 2013-2014 school year, so stay tuned. Thanks to all of the sf.citi members who contributed to this public education initiative!
